It is always a balancing act between security and convenience. My approach is to tick all the low hanging fruits while still being pretty comfortable. I call this “Tier 0”.
The stuff, that you must do, because not doing them - doesn’t do nothing.
So here I propose some action steps you can take while traveling, if incorporated correctly will make you as private as possible without giving up nothing.
Flight Booking
What I do, is this:
Search on Skyscanner.
See a good deal on a-okay provider.
Book it with alias number, alias email & my legal name (you need to show ID on an airport to board).
They don’t usually track you on the basis of your legal name as its a bit inefficient (there can be more than 1 person in a country)
You could just provide your first and last name, not your maiden or middle name.
There could be some problems if you only gave your first name depending on the people who will be checking you in.
Lounges?
Unfortunately, if you want to take full advantage of your cards, you need to provide those under your name as they cross check with your boarding pass.
You can always pay full with cash, if that’s an option.
You can keep a few cards that work on your staple lounges and rotate them, so that, no 1 card network / bank / sponsor have your full itinerary.
Accommodation
Hotel booking doesn’t require anything other than payment info.
You can check my article on that here:
Though, when checking in, the manager will xerox your ID and click a pic.
You can always pay in cash.
How to use points for hotels privately?
TODO - no idea.
Uber
Manually input locations.
Pay with cash.
Rotate accounts with “VOIP” numbers.
Can use cashback portals for free rides.
Food
Pay in cash but if you want to use your cards, I suggest you at least mask them with correct MCC code from platforms like fluz.
Grocery
Kroger,
if you are not in USA, your country probably has a network similar to that - just research and you will find one.
Maps
SKIP THIS SECTION, under construction.
TODO
Organic Maps - https://organicmaps.app/
Normies even use maps . me (openstreet maps based) because its offline maps work best.
Google Maps - https://codeberg.org/divested-mobile/maps
Apple Maps - its not even good lollll
GMap Webview Snadboxed→ Organic Maps, workflow??
Location providers - https://github.com/microg/UnifiedNlp
VPN
I’d suggest to setup a VPN at home so you could travel around the globe while being connected to the services you enjoy.
I am drafting a home server guide rn and “setting up a vpn” itself demands a guide.
But here are some links anyways:
If you are not “tech savvy”, I’d suggest you become one as things are going, you must.
Otherwise you can always just use proton.
Triangulation
from mobile towers, its mititgation is simple!
Don’t use SIM’s
Can use something like a StarLink (though I haven’t done my due diligence on how private it is nor do I have the kit with me - I am kinda waiting for researchers to give out some info but I may do a deep dive nevertheless if it calls for it, if you got some links kindly DM)
This service is quite expensive but is pretty cool - https://invisv.com/pgpp/, and if more people subscribe to it, the prices will come down hopefully.
Can book anonymous eSim’s from sites like silent.link or bots like https://t.me/Suanbot
